War Graves Week in Venray

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), in collaboration with the CWGC Venray War Cemetery Adoption Graves Foundation, is bringing its annual War Graves Week to Venray and offering free guided tours of the British war cemetery on 14 and 16 May. War Graves Week is an initiative to encourage people from the local community to come together and discover the war heritage in their neighbourhood. They learn about the stories of those commemorated by the CWGC in Venray. The tours will be given by members of the VWC Venray War Cemetery Adoption Foundation and will take place on 14 and 16 May. The location is the British war cemetery on Hoenderstraat. The tours start at 7 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Participation is free of charge and registration is not required. The British war cemetery is the final resting place of 693 victims of the Second World War. 2024 is an important commemorative year and the CWGC has launched The Legacy of Liberation campaign to highlight the 80th anniversary of several crucial moments during the Second World War. From Kohima and Imphal to the D-Day Landings, The Legacy of Liberation commemorates these remarkable events, and War Graves Week is your chance to learn more about the stories of our local and international heroes.
