In Memoriam

We'll keep their names and memories alive.

Piet Snellen

It was with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to our friend, fellow board member and founder of our foundation, Piet Snellen, much too early on January 25, 2021.

Piet was seriously ill and despite the fact that he knew he would not get better, he kept fighting. As a true Sevenummer he said that he would keep fighting as a “wearse eazel”. He did this until the last moment.

We'll keep their names and memories alive.

We'll keep their names and memories alive.

Loved and involved

Piet has meant a lot to the commemoration of allied soldiers. He was not only involved in our foundation but was also vice-chairman of the committee 4 and 5 May Sevenum. In addition, Piet played an important role in the establishment of the John Shiells monument in Sevenum and the Stirling monument in Kronenberg.  Piet did hours of research, managed to find important historical information and maintained valuable contacts with relatives of fallen soldiers.

As a foundation, we lose Piet, a very warm and nice person who created connection. We continue to work for this beautiful foundation with his drive.

“Lest we forget” also applies to Piet.
