Dankzij de inspanningen en het onderzoek van Malcolm en Mike McLeod krijgt een viertal graven op de Venray War Cemetery later dit jaar eindelijk een naam. Na 82 jaar is er voldoende bewijs om de identiteit van de betrokken militairen vast te stellen. Een bijzonder en ontroerend vooruitzicht.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Vandaag werden er namens onze stichting bloemen geplaatst op deze graven.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/p>\n<p>Those of you with good memories might remember I put a post on here on 19 January 2023 about my co-researcher, Mike McLeod, (sadly, since deceased) and myself submitting a case to the CWGC that graves 9-10-11-12<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>in Plot VII, Row E contained the remains of some of the crew of Lancaster LM387. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While I cannot yet reveal all I have recently been told by the JCCC, I think it is OK for me to tell you that although my case for LM387 has been rejected (which is naturally disappointing personally), there is some good news. That is that while investigating the case the authorities came across evidence that satisfies them that these graves contain the remains of four of the crew of a different Lancaster shot down in November 1944.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The even better news is that the authorities are currently in the process of informing the relatives of these men that their headstones are to be re-dedicated in a ceremony provisionally set for early October, to which I have been invited to join the official party.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Due to poor health, I will not be able to attend, but I am very hopeful that one of your group will also receive such an invitation. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>(Of course, members of the public are also welcome to witness the ceremony.)<\/p>\n<p>I am satisfied the authorities have proved their case and will let you know more once I feel it is proper for me to do so.
